Sun Microsystems Laboratories

Sun Microsystems Laboratories (SML) develops, demonstrates, and introduces new advanced technology and technical methodologies for Sun Microsystems, Inc. and its subsidiary corporations. SML is also chartered to maintain an awareness of, and contact with, outside technical activities in academia, government, and industry.

For a company to be successful over the long term, it needs to explore many different ideas. A research laboratory escapes some of the pressures of product groups, which allows it to explore a different set of ideas. We think of the SML activities as a portfolio of projects aimed at enhancing Sun's technical future.
